The world had been a pit of darkness for many years since the war had begun. Nuclear weapons and drills were set in place. Chemical warfare was just an everyday thing that you heard about on the news. Families were split apart. Children were left on their own and shoved into a life of adulthood far faster than they ever should have been. Death rates sky rocketed and suicide became the only option for many as they searched for a way out of the hellish place Earth had become.

Even as the war ended the Earth remained dark and desolate. The stains of the blood spilled stained the world like red-wine on a white sheet. It could be cleaned though the stain would forever remain there even if only lightly and this was no light stain.

The world was left with very few people. What had once been trillions of people, was only around a million if even that. There was no way of getting overseas and there was no way for people to communicate over long distances. The cities lay empty and their walls covered in foliage, trees sprouting from their road and high up into the blackened sky. The world had taken a great hit and it would take many years for the Earth to recover from the devastation.

Forty years after the war things were much different. The smog had cleared out from the cities and the skies had become blue once again while flowers bloomed in the large fields of green grass. Small villages popped up all over the place and people had begun to use the pony express once more. It was even said that on the coast of the United States, people were starting to build large wooden ships that they could take across the ocean to find others. Yes, the world had stepped forward though there was still a large reminder of the war left over for some people. Something they could not escape.

Two horrible chemicals had been used during the war among others. These chemicals were known simply as Vamp and W. The first was one that was administered into the body via water and caused the person to develop heightened senses and a taste for human blood. The other was an airborne virus much like rabies. It caused the person to berserk at times and attack people if they got too infuriated by something or during the night of the full moon. These chemicals, though far past use, seemed to have taken to the path of being hereditary; they mutated into a new form of themselves within the children of those afflicted by the chemicals before.

Vampire and werewolves, they would have seemed to come right out of the fairy tales and into the world of the living if somebody from the past saw these people.

Those children of people who were affected by Vamp became pale with larger canines. Their eyes had an unnatural glow to them and they craved human blood, having to drink it to keep them from having an almost allergic reaction to the sun.

Children of those affected by W became much more stable than their parents and only seemed to go berserk once a year on a date that was usually the same each time. All the rest of the while they simply had much more instinctual reaction and emotions with heightened senses, not so bad compared to the ‘vampires’ of Vamp.
